Welcome to the International Speaker Series
Last Wednesday of each month, March - June, 2021
The VCWA’s International Speaker Series aims to foster the appreciation for and practice of diversity through civil discourse in order to make a difference in the world. We do this through partnering with NGOs, corporations, government agencies and individuals to arrange timely discussions on critical international topics.
Fascism and 21st Century Democracy
The recent revival of political parties that seem to be embracing fascism across a number of Western countries is startling many political commentators. What does this resurgence mean for representation and democracy?
America’s Role in a Post-Trump World
How has America’s standing in the world evolved? What major foreign policy changes might the Biden administration make? As the US grapples with a host of domestic issues at home, should America seek to play such a large role on the world stage?
Journalism, Media, and Disinformation
Perhaps one of the most dramatic societal shifts in recent years has been in the way Americans view the media. As Americans grapple with a new media landscape, what lessons can we learn from journalists in other countries?
COVID-19, Science, and Cooperation
What can the international community do to rebuild trust and cooperation between countries? How can governments work together to create more resilient international systems and ensure a more equitable distribution of supplies and technology?

“I firmly believe that individuals have the right, if not the responsibility, to help shape U.S. foreign relations. The VCWA provides us with a platform to be citizen diplomats. Whether welcoming Ambassadors to our state, hosting international visitors, or learning about the global impacts of climate change or immigration policy; we can practice citizen diplomacy.”
