COVID-19, Science, and International Cooperation

Join Dr. Roger I. Glass, Director of the Fogarty International Center and Associate Director for International Research at the NIH; Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, Technical Lead of COVID Response and the Head of the Emerging Diseases and Zoonosis Unit at the World Health Organization; and other panelists for a panel discussion exploring the role of international institutions in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of cooperation between governments in addressing international emergencies. In America and elsewhere, politicians have cast doubt on the professionalism and motivations of doctors and scientists, while pundits and the public have spread disinformation and promoted conspiracy theories about vaccines, potential cures, and the severity of the disease. What can the international community do to rebuild trust and cooperation between countries? How can governments work together to create more resilient international systems and ensure a more equitable distribution of supplies and technology?
