Speakers
Eric Smith is a Senior Advisor in the U.S. State Department’s Office of the Special Envoy for Critical and Emerging Technology. Prior to this he served as the Economic Unit Chief in Bern, Switzerland. Eric’s previous diplomatic assignments include macro finance analysis in Baghdad, a detail to the World Bank, the Foreign Service Institute’s Economic Studies course, chemical weapons nonproliferation based in the Netherlands, bilateral economic relations in Spain, visa adjudication in Pakistan, and commercial diplomacy in Hungary. Eric joined the U.S. Government as a Presidential Management Fellow. Prior to this, he worked in software marketing in his home state of California. Eric holds an MBA and MA in international relations and a BS in economics.
Larisa K. Schelkin is the Founder and CEO of Global STEM Education Center, Inc. She is also a Founder of the Global Technology and Engineering Consortium and a co-founder of the DOME Foundation. Schelkin is the author of the Global STEM Classroom® teaching and learning model and she has held executive positions in academia and at global STEM corporations. Larisa is a Fellow for Education Policy, Rennie Center for Educational Research and Policy & Institute for Education Leadership (IEL), Washington, DC.
Larisa studied Global Education at Harvard University Graduate School of Education and is a NASA 4D Systems training provider and NASA GLOBE program partner. She is a Fellow and Board member of the Massachusetts Academy of Science. She holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the Russian Petroleum Engineering University, and a Master of Science from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
