Exchange Report: October 2021


Central American Youth Ambassadors (CAYA)

From September 24th - October 22nd, the VCWA virtually hosted 19 youth exchange participants from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, and Venezuela through the Spanish language Central American Youth Ambassadors (CAYA) program. This five-week cultural exchange, funded by the U.S. Department of State and Georgetown CIED, was dedicated to sharing about life and culture in Vermont and Central America through food, music, souvenirs, interactive activities, and more.


Managing Digital Assets

From October 13th - 14th, the VCWA virtually hosted 16 participants from Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The delegation met with representatives from University of Vermont (UVM) Innovations and Vermont Technology Alliance to discuss emerging rural technology hubs. The participants also connected with Vermonters during a virtual home hospitality session.


Combating Transnational Crime

From October 18th - 20th, the VCWA virtually hosted 5 participants from Mexico. The delegation met with representatives from the Vermont State Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Vermont Department of Health to discuss protecting homeland security and state government efforts to address the opioid epidemic in Vermont. The participants also connected with Vermonters during a virtual home hospitality session.


Economic Analysis of Environmental Programs

From October 19th - 21st, the VCWA virtually hosted 6 participants from Egypt. The delegation met with representatives from the City of Burlington’s Legacy Action Plan, the Lake Champlain Committee, and Vermont Public Interest Research Group (VPIRG) to discuss the cost-benefit analysis of environmental programs and advocacy efforts.
