About the Event
International Day of Peace represents a globally shared day for all humanity to commit to building a culture of peace in communities around the world. The Vermont Council on World Affairs is excited to mark International Day of Peace with programming focused on this important topic.
Join us with special guest Carla Koppell as she discusses her book “Untapped Power: Leveraging Diversity and Inclusion for Conflict and Development”.
We encourage individuals to purchase and read the book prior to the talk, however it is not required in order to participate. This event will be via ZOOM.
About the Book
Urgent challenges relating to diversity and inclusion are universal. The global #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter movements as well as the push for LGBTQ+ rights are all emblematic of a growing interest in and focus on how to better embrace and capitalize on diversity. Yet these social movements exist alongside renewed efforts to constrain minority rights and stem immigration around the world.
In Untapped Power, Carla Koppell has assembled a leading group of scholars, policy makers, researchers, and activists to provide a comprehensive overview for understanding and navigating these countervailing forces, so that we can build a more peaceful and inclusive world.
Untapped Power brings together exceptional international leaders in the field from every corner of the world. Combining academic research with practitioner observation from the field and bridges sub-fields in international relations to offer high profile analysis and commentary that communicates the universality of DEI issues to development and conflict resolution.
